On 9 March 2026, overnight, ISWAP launched a coordinated attack on the Nigerian troops of Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai in Goniri (Gujba, Yobe). The troops repelled the attack with air support, killing over 20 ISWAP fighters while an unspecified number of soldiers sustained injuries. The troops recovered machine guns, AK-47 rifles, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), bombs, and assorted ammunition of various calibers. The troops later discovered additional ISWAP bodies on 11 March 2026 while patrolling Gwaigomari within the Timbuktu Triangle.
