On 8 March 2026, military troops of the Operation Desert Sanity clashed with suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram (JAS) fighters, described as 'bandits', in Sambisa Forest Reserve (Gwoza, Borno), killing 2 persons and wounding several others. The troops engaged when ISWAP/Boko Haram (JAS) fighters attacked their position during a clearance operation. Items recovered include one PKT machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs, 51 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 108 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, two Baofeng communication radios, one Redmi Android mobile phone, and three Airtel SIM cards.
