On 7 March 2026, unidentified drones (likely linked to Iranian-backed groups due to ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran) targeted U.S. forces at the Erbil International Airport (Erbil). Coalition forces (likely U.S. forces) successfully intercepted most of the drones, but one drone fell inside the airport area, killing 1 Asayish officer who worked as an airport security officer, and injuring 3 others. 1 fatality. Some debris from intercepted drones fell on a warehouse near the Gazna village, causing a fire. Unknown militants targeted Erbil and its surroundings with a total of 9 drones that night, with some drones targeting the U.S. consulate and other targets in Erbil City (coded as a separate event).
