On 7 March 2026, in the vicinity of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas municipality (Santo Domingo), three armed men traveling on two motorcycles killed two people in a drive-by shooting at a volleyball court located in the Aquepi sector in the Julio Moreno commune. The attackers entered the sports area and fired at the victims. Two additional people were injured. Both victims had prior criminal records for drug trafficking, and one for possession of weapons. Police later detained a suspect after he stole a vehicle to escape. Authorship and motivations are unknown. 2 fatalities.
