An 18-year-old man was "very seriously" injured after a shooting on a bus in Bollmora in Tyresö, south of Stockholm. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

As of Thursday morning, no suspect had been arrested.

The shooting took place on an SL bus at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

– It happened when the driver had stopped at the bus stop to drop off and pick up, says Sophie Gunnarsson, press communicator at SL.

About 20 people were on the bus at the time of the shooting.

Police confirm that one person is seriously injured and that an unknown perpetrator has been seen running from the scene.

Several schools, including Tyresö Gymnasium, Nybodaskolan and Dalskolan, were housed. Preschools and primary schools were also housed initially.

– We are gradually starting to let children and students go home from schools, said Martin Widholm, head of school at Tyresö municipality, on Wednesday afternoon.

Police: Relatives have been notified

The police are in contact with the relatives of the man who was shot. The bus stop was still cordoned off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and the police are providing security in the area.

– The bus has been seized and will probably be towed later tonight, said Daniel Wikdahl at the Stockholm Police at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

No suspect arrested

As of Thursday morning, no one is in custody. Police have interviewed many witnesses at the scene and are continuing their investigation.

– We are trying to find out what is behind this, why this person and in what context, says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.

The son was nearby: "Uncomfortable"

A woman living near Tyresö Gymnasium says she saw the police operation in her backyard. Her son was on his way to a bus stop when he met the bus.

– It's uncomfortable. I was most worried about my son, that's the first thought that comes to mind, she says.

Another woman in the same area said that it had been quiet in the area for a while, and that it felt "unpleasant" that there had been a shooting so close to her home.

– My daughter goes to high school and has to pass Tyresö Gymnasium to get home. We don't know how she's going to get home, and I don't dare go out, I don't know if any perpetrator is on the loose, she said.

Bollmoradalen Church was open on Wednesday evening for those who needed to talk about the incident, Tyresö Municipality wrote on its website. Tyresö Gymnasium and Tyresö Komvux will also have crisis support on site on Thursday.
