UAV event in Wadi Fira area, Chad on Wed 18th March 2026

Chad 🇹🇩 | On March 18th, around 5 PM, a drone attack occurred in the Mabrouka neighborhood of the border town of Tiné-Djagaraba (Wadi Fira). Civilians attending a wake were hit. The toll is very high.

🔴 At least 20 people were killed. More than 66 seriously wounded were evacuated to the hospital in Abéché. The toll is still provisional.

🔸 Following the attack, a security council meeting was chaired by Mahamat Idriss Déby, resulting in the following decisions: - Complete closure of the border with Sudan 🇸🇩. - The Chadian army was placed on alert. - Immediate response to any new Sudanese incursion.

🔹 An investigation has been launched into the origin of the drone, and a government mission has been dispatched to the site (📷 drone debris below).

🔸 Sudanese Special Forces (SFR) authorities deny responsibility for the attack and accuse the Sudanese regular forces.

⚠️ On the Sudanese side, the war is raging between the regular army and the FSR, and the twin city of Tiné, called Tina, has been claimed by the FSR since February 21st. Many civilians and members of the Toroboros militia have taken refuge on the Chadian side in Tiné.

ℹ️ The towns of Tiné and Tina are separated only by a small stream and are primarily inhabited by the same Zaghawa (Beri) community, who often consider them to be one and the same town.
