Police intervene in communal clash in Umuoba Anam, Anambra
By: Zagazola Makama
The Anambra State Police Command has restored calm in Umuoba Anam Community following a clash between indigenes and members of the Hausa community on Sunday.
According to sources, the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on March 21, when hoodlums, believed to be natives of Umuoba Anam Village, attacked the Hausa residents.
The assault was reportedly in retaliation for the alleged killing of a woman in Asaba, Delta State, who was said to be from Umuoba Anam, and the perpetrators mistakenly blamed members of the Hausa community.
Police and tactical teams, supported by other security agencies, were immediately dispatched to the scene. By the time they arrived, the hoodlums had fled after stealing phones and damaging some property. No casualties were reported.
Community leaders from both sides have been invited for dialogue and counseled on peaceful coexistence. Police have assured residents that patrols will continue, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover stolen items.
The area is currently under control, and normalcy has returned.
