Troops discover, detonate IED along Damboa–Komala road in Borno

By: Zagazola Makama

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Damboa–Komala–Maiduguri road in Borno, while providing security escort to civilian commuters.

Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 8:40 a.m. on March 19 by troops of 25 Brigade Garrison and 19 Battalion (Mechanised), in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The troops were on a fighting patrol along the main supply route (MSR) from Damboa to Maiduguri, aimed at dominating the corridor and denying terrorists freedom of action.

During the operation, the troops successfully escorted 32 civilian vehicles from Damboa to Komala, where they were handed over for onward movement to Maiduguri.

“While on the route, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team discovered one IED planted by suspected terrorists and safely detonated it in-situ,” the source said.

Following the clearance, the troops continued their operation and later escorted 60 civilian vehicles safely back to Damboa without incident.

The sources added that the operation was part of sustained efforts by troops to secure critical road networks, protect commuters and prevent terrorist attacks along major routes in the North-East.

They noted that the continued presence of troops and routine clearance operations had significantly enhanced safety and boosted confidence among road users in the area.
