On 6 March 2026, at least one reconnaissance drone launched by an unidentified armed group (likely linked to Iranian-backed groups due to ongoing hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran) struck an oilfield operated by BP in Ar Rumaylah city (Al Basrah). The attack prompted over 100 British and other foreign experts to leave the site. There were no casualties.
