On 5 March 2026, around 1:40am Kuwait time, IRGC naval forces targeted (method unclear but coded as a missile attack) the Sonangol Namibe crude oil tanker (IMO: 9325049) in the North Persian Gulf, around 30 nm southeast of Al Mubarak Al Kabir. A large explosion directly impacted the ship's port side, causing water to leak and oil to spill into the water. There were no injuries or fatalities. The IRGC claimed that the attack caused a fire on it, but third-party sources denied this.
