On 5 March 2026, armed clashes took place between police forces and suspected ISIL members, after a police patrol pursued a silver Hyundai Avante car carrying armed men in the al-Sabahiya neighborhood at the western entrance of Ar-Raqqa city. The police patrol surrounded and besieged the vehicle before the forces were able to arrest four members of the gunmen. During the clash, the gunmen threw a grenade at the police forces, but there were no casualties.
