On 4 March 2026, two vehicles, including an armored vehicle, of the Malian army and Africa Corps struck an IED planted by an armed group (likely JNIM, based on the location) on the road between Kidal and Takalout. A number of soldiers were killed, six others were injured, and the vehicles were destroyed. JNIM claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it targeted a Malian army armored vehicle with an IED on the outskirts of Aguelhok, and released photographs of the scene showing the destroyed vehicle.
