On 4 March 2026, JNIM attacked a military position in Kofouno (Karimama, Alibori). JNIM claimed the attack and stated to have seized control and burned and seized equipment. 15 soldiers were killed, and four were injured. An army aircraft targeted the attackers during their attempt to retreat, killing 4. There were 19 fatalities.
