On 3 March 2026, Mayi Mayi militia from the Bakata Katanga faction attacked the headquarters of Upemba National Park in Lusinga (Mitwaba, Haut-Katanga). 5 park staff members were killed, and several others injured, including a park motorcyclist shot in the hip and the intelligence officer of the park paramilitary unit, who was hospitalized in Likasi. Most personnel were held hostages, and some 15 were later released. The attackers destroyed infrastructure and looted equipment.
