In the Irish city of Cork, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen was fatally stabbed when he left his home to buy groceries for his family.
Source: Irish Independent , Irish public broadcaster RTÉ
Details: The tragedy occurred on Monday at around 8pm local time in Cork city centre on Lower John Street. The man had left his flat to buy food for a family dinner on the eve of St Patrick's Day.
The deceased was originally from Ukraine, but had lived in Ireland for most of his adult life.
Detectives believe it was an unprovoked street attack.
Despite his serious stab wounds, the man was able to walk almost 100 metres back to his Camden Court apartment complex to call for help. He lost a lot of blood and collapsed shortly after reaching his home.
Neighbors, upon seeing the man, immediately called emergency services. Paramedics arrived within minutes and tried to stabilize the Ukrainian's condition, but he died from his injuries at the scene.
Police have reportedly arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of the attack. He is currently in custody.
Although the murder weapon has not yet been found, police are placing high hopes on the extensive video surveillance system in the area.
