Journalist in Oaxaca Shot in Public. The attack occurred Monday night in the El Calvario neighborhood of Pinotepa Nacional, on the coast of Oaxaca. Óscar Merino Ruiz, 29, director of the news website OM Noticias, was intercepted by armed men who shot him repeatedly in the street. Assisted by civilians, he was rushed to a private clinic where his condition is reported as critical. State Police, the National Guard, and the State Investigation Agency launched an operation in the area but made no arrests. The state prosecutor's office opened a case to clarify the circumstances. The governor of Oaxaca condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation. The National Forum of Journalists demanded protection for the journalist and his family, as well as guarantees for the profession in the state.
