CBRN event in Chaharbagh Square, Iran, Islamic Republic of on Tue 17th March 2026

Eventful night is Tehran as Iranians take to the streets to celebrate Chaharshanbe Suri. The Basij still maintains a strong presence throughout Tehran and Karaj. In Tehranpars, oppositionist sources claim there are security personnel stationed on rooftops, overlooking the festivities. There are armed security personnel in Narmak, including some patrolling with motorcycles. Oppositionists claims there were several instances where gunfire was heard, and certain parts of the neighborhood are blocked. They also claim there were several arrested and tear gas fired in Ektaban and Chaharbagh Square, & Chitgar (we have footage from this area) western Tehran. Additional Basij checkpoints have been set up in recent hours, including near major highways and public squares. Security sites at the entrances to cities outsides Tehran are being set up for the first time in Golestan, Markazi, Gilan, Isfahan, & Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Provinces. Some anti-government and pro-monarchy chants were heard in celebrations in parts of Tehran and Karaj. You can audibly hear that these chants are coming from a younger crowd. Some crowds that were blasting dance music and launching fireworks. In other celebratory gatherings (such as in Isfahan) the crowds raised the Iranian flag and burned the US/Israeli flags, along with a statue of Baal.
