On 2 March 2026, in Bacum, Sonora, members of the Navy entered a Yaqui Indigenous community in pursuit of two suspected drug dealers. Individuals and community members, suspected of having connections to organized crime, intervened to prevent the arrest of both men and attacked and damaged one patrol vehicle with a machete upon which the officers fired warning shots into the air. State police officers arrived at the scene shortly after. Unauthorized entry into the autonomous Yaqui Indigenous territory is considered a violation by community members. There were no casualties.
