On 28 February 2026, an on-duty Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) officer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City (Negros Occidental, Western Visayas). Authorities said the victim was with other BPAT officers when he was attacked and that the assailants only targeted him. Authorities suspected the attack was related to the killing of a farmer, suspected of being a military asset, by NPA militants in Barangay Dian-ay, Escalante City, on 26 February 2026 (coded separately).
