Undefined Explosive Device (UED) event in La Libertad, Chepen area, Peru on Sat 28th February 2026

On 28 February 2026, in Chepen (La Libertad), an unknown number of unidentified armed perpetrators detonated an explosive device at the front of the Ciro Alegria Institute (school) to demand a payment of 500,000 soles as part of an ongoing extortion on the government-run institution. The attack targeted the reconstruction project of the educational facility, which is valued at 123 million soles and managed by the regional government. The same location had been targeted for the same reasons on 22 February (coded separately). In the previous attack, the perpetrators had sent a video threatening to kill site workers and security personnel if the extortion demands were not met within 24 hours. There were no casualties.
