Around 28 February 2026 (as reported), in Tres Esquinas (Trujillo), joint Trujillo state police and unspecified military forces shot and killed a member of the El Loro gang. According to security forces, after noticing their presence, the armed suspect took refuge inside a house and held its residents hostage for several minutes. An exchange of fire followed, during which the suspect was injured and later pronounced dead at a hospital. He had a criminal record for homicide. Security forces recovered a handgun at the scene. The family was unharmed and released safely. 1 fatality.
