On 28 February 2026, in the evening, JNIM militants launched an attack on the Burkinabe army digging trenches in the village of Salla (Titao, Loroum, Nord). A number of soldiers were killed, and others sustained injuries. JNIM claimed to have attacked Burkinabe soldiers who were digging trenches on the outskirts of Titao (meaning the village of Salla, which is located 3 kilometers away from Titao). In a separate statement, JNIM announced that it killed 30 soldiers and seized weapons, various military equipment, and motorcycles. Additionally a bulldozer, a military vehicle, and several motorcycles were also destroyed. JNIM released photographs showing the seized items and the burned bulldozer.
