(FOX40.COM) — Several students and staff at Apricot Valley Elementary reported experiencing discomfort Friday after a district grounds employee sprayed a weed control product on campus. According to the Superintendent of Patterson Joint Unified School District, Dr. Reyes Gauna, the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when a grounds employee applied Cornerstone herbicide. Shortly afterward, students and staff near the sprayed area reported feeling unwell. School and district personnel responded immediately, and medical staff evaluated those affected. Gauna said the safety and well-being of students and staff remained the district’s top priority, with ongoing monitoring and support provided as needed. Gauna stated in an email to FOX40 that the district is conducting a full investigation to determine whether established protocols were followed. Officials added that the Initial reports suggest the spraying may have occurred outside of PJUSD procedures. Appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings, and the district said it will review the incident to strengthen safety and response measures. At this time, no serious injuries have been reported.
