Mortar Bomb
Mortar Bomb event in Jammu and Kashmir, Sawjian, Poonch District area, India on Sat 7th March 2026
7th March 2026
On March 7, Security Forces (SFs) recovered a live mortar shell in a forward village near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Sawjian sector of Poonch District in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. A border resident spotted the unexploded shell lying in a secluded area of Brari village and alerted the Army unit and the local Police post. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was rushed to the spot and safely defused the shell without causing any damage. Officials stated that the mortar shell was apparently fired from across the border earlier but had remained unexploded. They added that the recovery of such unexploded ordnance in forward areas is routine as shells fired during ceasefire violations often remain buried or undetected for long periods, posing a serious threat to civilians living in border areas.
