On March 6, Police arrested five unidentified people and detained one juvenile in Amritsar District of Punjab, for their alleged involvement in a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module linked to handlers in Pakistan, reports The Tribune. Police recovered five pistols, including Glock and Taurus 9 mm weapons, 34 live cartridges and a sharp-edged weapon. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based arms smugglers through social media platforms and were involved in distributing illegal weapons in and around Amritsar. Authorities suspect the network to be part of a larger cross-border smuggling operation supplying weapons to criminal elements.|On March 6, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested four alleged drug peddlers near the International Border (IB) in Amritsar District of Punjab and recovered 260 grams of heroin along with INR 5,47,000 suspected drug money, reports The Tribune. The arrested accused were identified as Deepak Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Parmraj Singh and Samir Singh. Officials stated that the cash recovered during the operation is suspected to be proceeds from narcotics trafficking.
