Grenade event in Dhaka, Mustafapur, Madaripur District area, Bangladesh on Wed 4th March 2026

On March 4, at least eight people, including a woman, were injured in an attack by opponents focused on expanding dominance in Mustafapur area of ??Sadar Upazila (Sub-District) in Madaripur District, in which at least 20 hand grenades were detonated during the attack, vandalising and looting five houses, two shops and two motorcycles and house of a UP member was set on fire during the attack, reports Prothom Alo. The names and identities of six people injured in the attack were identified, namely, Habib Hawlader (35), UP member of ward number 4 of Mustafapur Union Parishad, his mother Hasiya Begum (60), Maqbul Hawlader (60), Nasir Hawlader (45), Zakir Hawlader (42), Idris Hawlader (25) of the same area. According to Police, Mustafapur Union Parishad (UP) members Habib Hawlader and Idris Hawlader had been in a long-standing dispute with Shamchu Sardar, alias Kopa Shamchu, over the dominance of the community. Shamchu Sardar was arrested by RAB in an explosives case six months ago.
