A 58-year-old man lost his temper and used a scoped rifle to shoot a Myanmar national, seriously injuring him in front of a grocery store. The suspect claimed he only intended to fire a warning shot because he was annoyed by loud talking.

Today (March 8, 2026), Pol. Lt. Col. Suphathat Kittiworayot, Deputy Superintendent of Hang Dong Police Station, led an investigation team to a grocery store in Ban Wiang Dong, Moo 11, Nam Phrae Sub-district, Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai, following reports of a shooting.

At the scene, a man was found lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his right eyebrow. Nam Phrae Sub-district rescue workers provided emergency first aid before rushing him to the hospital. He was later identified as Mr. Jai San Min, a 33-year-old Myanmar national. A large crowd of local residents gathered at the site, discussing the incident.

Mr. Sorasak, 48, the grocery store owner, stated that prior to the shooting, the victim and his friends were standing and chatting in front of the shop. While he was taking out the trash, he heard a "thud" followed by a commotion, then saw the victim collapse with blood streaming from his forehead. Shocked, he immediately called the police and emergency services.

Detectives inspected the scene and traced the bullet's trajectory, which originated from the south of the store. After searching nearby houses, they identified a suspicious residence belonging to 58-year-old Mr. Bunpan, located directly across from the grocery store. During intense interrogation, he initially provided a partial denial. However, police eventually discovered a homemade .22 caliber scoped long gun hidden under a large tree in his backyard, forcing him to confess in the face of the evidence.
