9th March 2026
Türkiye's Ministry of National Defense (MoND) confirmed on Monday that a ballistic missile launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense assets, with debris falling onto vacant land in Gaziantep, the second such incident in a week.
"A ballistic munition launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defence assets deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean," Ministry of National Defense stated in its statement on X.
The confirmation came after earlier reports of suspected missile fragments found in Gaziantep's Guneyshehir district, where gendarmerie forces had cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
