On 25 February 2026, near Hpasawng town (Hpasawng township, Bawlake district, Kayah state), the Myanmar military claimed that a combined force of the Karenni Army, the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force, and the People's Defense Force detonated the Thanlwin Bridge (Hpasawng), which connects Hpasawng township to Mese township, using mines in the morning. The explosion caused a section around 300 feet long and 24 feet wide between piers P-5 and P-7 on the western waterway side of the bridge to collapse. There were no casualties.
