On 25 February 2026, near the coast of Corralillo, Villa Clara, Cuban border guard officers intercepted a vessel with 10 armed men on board. The armed men fired shots at the border police, prompting an armed clash, which resulted in four men dead and six injured. According to the Cuban Government, the armed individuals intended to carry out a terrorist attack on the island. Following the attack, the six injured perpetrators were arrested and an arsenal of weapons was seized from them. The Cuban authorities claim that the vessel was registered in Florida and that Cuban citizens with US residents were onboard. At least one of the arrested armed men is a US citizen. Critics to the Government claim that the armed men on the vessel were infiltrated by the Government itself to stage an aggression and appear as a victim. Other critics questioned the veracity of the attack as it was presented by the Government, shedding light on the lack of evidence. 4 fatalities. 6 injured.
