25th February 2026
On 25 February 2026, in La Paz, Baja California Sur, unidentified individuals shot and killed the former Deputy Attorney General for High-Impact Crimes when he was driving in fraccionamiento Hispania. Days before the attack, the victim had been dismissed from his position as Director of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Criminal Sciences. The dismissal was suspectedly due to a press conference he held about his work that had not been authorized by his superiors. However, other suspected reasons pointed at recent accusations of ties between the victim and organized crime. The accusations were first made by a member of Los Chapitos Gang in an interview with a YouTuber, and later on narco banners displayed in La Paz. The victim had recently denounced links between state officials and organized crime and had published a video accusing the Attorney General of Baja California Sur of being a 'criminal'. 1 fatality.
