On 24 February 2026, in Yoe Ngu village (Ponnagyun township, Sittwe district, Rakhine state), the Myanmar military conducted airstrikes and dropped two 500-lb bombs with a fighter jet around 2 pm which fell and exploded at a market and a school in the village. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that at least 14 civilians including children and women were killed and many were injured. Shwe Phee Myay News Agency reported that 12 civilians were killed and 20 were injured. Myanmar Pressphoto Agency, Network Media Group, Narinjara News, Khit Thit Media and BBC News reported that 17 civilians, including children, were killed and around 14 were injured. Irrawaddy reported that 18 civilians, including four children, were killed. Narinjara News reported on 25 February that 20 civilians, including children and women, were killed and more than 20 others were injured. At least five houses and shops were destroyed. Fatalities coded as 20, using the most recent estimate.
