On 24 February 2026, police attacked IPOB/ESN fighters, killing 2 sub commanders in their hideouts around Amaocha Afara, Umunoha, and Ifakala communities crossing Mbaitoli and Njaba LGAs, location coded to Umunoha Forest (Mbaitoli, Imo). Several militia members escaped with gunshot injuries, and the police recovered two automatic pump-action guns, nine live cartridges, six spent cartridges, and a walkie-talkie.
