On 23 February 2026, near Paingkyon town (Hlaingbwe township, Hpa-An district, Kayin state), fighting broke out between the advancing Myanmar military troops and the Karen National Liberation Army and allies. During the armed clash, the military fired heavy weapons. 2 military soldiers were killed and 8 were injured. Two locals were also injured as the military fired heavy weapons indiscriminately. 2 fatalities.
