On 23 February 2026, in Chone (Manabi), an armed man killed one person and injured another at the intersection of Rocafuerte and Mercedes streets. The victim was a leader of the Los Choneros gang, was on the list of most wanted in Manabi in 2011, and was later arrested in 2013 until 2018, when he was released under pre-release conditions. Police associate him with an important part of the gang's logistics and operations. Authorship is unknown. 1 fatality
