On 23 February 2026, in Anajas (Para), a military police officer shot and killed a man during a police operation. There were conflicting accounts of the incident: witnesses stated that the victim was riding a motorcycle with his family when the officer approached and opened fire, mistaking him for a wanted individual, while the civil police stated that the man died during a confrontation with military police and that another suspect was arrested for drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm.
