On 23 February 2026, police officers trailed and ambushed unknown gunmen (likely Samburu militia who had recently been active in the sub-county), leading to an armed clash at the Lowangishu Hills near Burat (Isiolo, Isiolo), moments after the gunmen had invaded the Matabithi area and made away with an unknown number of cattle. There were no casualties on the side of the police, and 70 heads of cattle were recovered following the incident.
