On 23 February 2026, the Malian army claimed to have conducted an airstrike against armed militants (likely JNIM, based on location) on motorcycles near the village of Faneme (Zantiebougou, Bougouni, Sikasso), killing a number of militants and destroying their logistics. The Malian army stated that following the airstrikes in the areas of Faneme and Zantiebougou (coded separately), it conducted a sweep and seized a vehicle concealed under a tree. The vehicle was loaded with a large quantity of weapons, including submachine guns, PKM machine guns, a 12.7 mm machine gun, as well as mattresses and equipment intended for the manufacture of IEDs.
