Cluster Bomb / Submunition event in Sagaing, Ma Au area, Myanmar on Sun 22nd February 2026

On 22 February 2026, between Ma Au and Myay Ne villages (coded as Ma Au) (Monywa township, Monywa district, Sagaing region), a combined force of the Area 71 People's Defense Force (Monywa), the Golden Target Force, the Brave Heart Army, the Monywa Special Deik Deik Kye PDF, the People's Security Force (Area-4) and the Monywa Dynamite - Special Task Force attacked a convoy of 6 armor vehicles, two 12-wheeled trucks and 6 trucks carrying copper from LID-33 using 5 cluster mines at around 6:30 pm. The combined force also fired small weapons. The Myanmar military sent reinforcement forces. The fighting lasted about 15 minutes. Myanmar Pressphoto Agency reported that 2 military soldiers were killed and 3 others were injured. Khit Thit Media reported that 5 military soldiers were killed. Fatalities coded as 2, using the lowest estimate.
