On 22 February 2026, Pakistani military forces carried out airstrikes in Muhmand Dara district, Nangarhar, wounding a child. Pakistan claimed that seven positions in the provinces of Paktika, Nangarhar, and Khost were targeted, including TTP and ISKP hideouts, killing more than 100 of them, including a senior operational commander of al-Qaeda and a deputy of Hafiz Gul Bahadur's group. Pakistan said that these centers were involved in planning suicide attacks in Bannu, Bajaur, and a mosque on the outskirts of Islamabad. The Taliban claimed that civilians, including women and children, were targeted in the bombings, and that dozens were killed and wounded between 21 and 22 February. UNAMA confirmed that 13 people, including women and children, were killed and 7 others were wounded in Behsud (coded separately) and Khugyani (coded separately). Amnesty International confirmed that 13 members of a single family, including women and children, were killed, 9 others were wounded, and five people are still missing.
