On 22 February 2026, in Manta (Manabi), several armed individuals on motorcycles killed two women in a drive-by shooting on Avenida 4 de Noviembre. The attackers intercepted the vehicle and fired a burst at the occupants; the driver lost control and crashed into a wall while the attackers fled. The driver was injured, and the two passengers, who were sisters, died. On 24 February, police arrested three individuals implicated in this killing and in another killing in Manta. Motivations are unknown. 2 fatalities.
