On 22 February 2026, in Villa Union, Sinaloa, a group of around 30 armed men (likely CJNG) assaulted, threatened at gunpoint, and robbed of their cameras and phones two journalists from Noroeste newspaper while covering the burning of trailer trucks and a (narco) roadblock on the bridge over the Presidio River. The roadblock was set by the armed group using four vehicles. Also in Villa Union, armed men (likely CJNG members) burned a bus, six cargo trucks and a civilian vehicle were set on fire on Ninos Heroes Boulevard at the main entrance from Mexico 15 Avenue. Two armed men were arrested. This occurred following the killing of the top leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) during a military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco earlier that same day.
