SAA event in Jalisco, Zapopan area, Mexico on Sun 22nd February 2026

On 22 February 2026, in Zapopan, Jalisco, armed men (likely CJNG) shot at the police station of Altagracia sector on Avenida de la Mancha, killing a woman who was passing near the area. A police officer was also killed during the incidents. Armed individuals burned vehicles and used them to set up a (narco) roadblock. A police vehicle was vandalized and a crane from the Security Secretariat was burned. This occurred following the killing of the top leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) during a military operation in Tapalpa earlier that same day (coded separately). The disruptions were reported across multiple locations, including, fraccionamiento Canadas, La Venta del Astillero, Felipe Ruvalcaba, Guadalupe y El Colli, el Bajio, Lopez Mateos Sur, Periferico, Tabachines, Vallarta-Periferico, Avenida Alcalde, among others. The armed individuals also set fire to pharmacies and convenience stores, and a gas station, they scattered metal spike strips ('ponchallantas') on streets and highways, and in several cases forcibly took vehicles from motorists to burn them. This event was replicated in other locations in the state and nationwide (coded separately). Authorities reported the killing of 30 CJNG members and 25 officers of the security forces during clashes between on 22 February in Jalisco involving CJNG members. 2 fatalities coded in this event.
