SAA event in Jalisco, Guadalajara area, Mexico on Sun 22nd February 2026

On 22 February 2026, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, a group of hooded men shot at journalists traveling in a van and working for the news outlet Azteca Noticias, covering the roadblocks in the city. The attack took place heading to the airport when they were shot near Tlajomulco de Zuniga. Simultaneously, armed individuals burned vehicles and used them to set up a (narco) roadblock. In addition, a small Banco del Bienestar branch (a government bank) was also set on fire. The disruptions were reported across multiple locations in the metropolitan area, including the burning of gas stations and vehicles at major intersections and highways such as Calzada Independencia and Periferico, Lazaro Cardenas near the central bus station, and roads toward Zacoalco de Torres and Nogales, Tabachines, Alcalde, Volcan, among others. The armed individuals also set fire to pharmacies and convenience stores, scattered metal spike strips ('ponchallantas') on streets and highways, and, in several cases, forcibly took vehicles from motorists to burn them. Authorities suspended public transportation. This occurred following the killing of the top leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) during a military operation in Tapalpa earlier that same day (coded separately).
