On 22 February 2026, in Mahotiere, Ouest, a police officer shot and killed two men during an intervention aimed at stopping a man whom the population were trying to apprehend for public disorder. According to witnesses, instead of arresting the man, the officer took his firearm and shot at him directly, killing him and the coordinator of the vice-delegation at the Pointe a Raquette commune, who was behind him and was hit with a stray bullet. 2 fatalities.
