SAA event in Cabo Delgado, Quinto Congresso area, Mozambique on Sun 22nd February 2026

On 22 February 2026, for the first day, ISM militants clashed with Mozambique forces on the N380 road in Quinto Congresso (Chai, Macomia, Cabo Delgado). The militants surprised the forces during a vehicle escort, fired shots at at least three vehicles, and placed a truck in the road to block traffic. One minor, another resident, and 2 militants died, and 1 UIR member was shot but is 'out of danger.' An unknown number of militants and 4 vehicle passengers were injured. Several people were abducted into the bush for ransom. The militants looted food from the vehicles and took it into the bush. Military escorts were temporarily suspended, and the RDF arrived to assist with vehicle circulation. ISM claimed it attacked a Mozambique army patrol and killed 1 force and 1 'Christian' and damaged a vehicle. Fatalities coded as 4.
