On 22 February 2026, armed militants (likely JNIM, based on location) attacked the Burkinabe army and volunteer fighters (VDP) in the village of Djambende (Soudougui, Koulpelogo, Centre-Est). The attack was repelled. During the assault, the Togolese air force intervened and conducted airstrikes against the militants. A total of 13 people were killed, including 11 militants and 2 civilians. Additionally, one soldier was injured and taken to a health center in Togo. The soldiers also seized equipment.
