On 21 February 2026, in Tabacales (Rocafuerte, Manabi), several armed men killed a man after a pursuit while attacking him in a drive-by shooting. For 5 km, the attackers pursued the victim and fired repeatedly while moving. The victim attempted to take refuge in a house but died due to the severity of his injuries. Police stated that the motorcycle the victim was using was stolen. Authorship and motivation are unknown. 1 fatality
