SAA event in Benin on Wed 4th March 2026

Benin 🇧🇯 | On the afternoon of March 4th, JNIM terrorists attacked a small military camp located on the eastern outskirts of the village of Kofouno (Karimama, Alibori) (📷 inset) on the edge of W National Park. The fighting was fierce and the toll is very high.

🔴 At least 22 soldiers were killed and several are missing, according to an initial provisional report.

🔵 The camp was looted of its weapons and set on fire.

🔸 The attack was quickly claimed by JNIM terrorists.

🔹 This is the most violent terrorist attack in Benin in nearly a year, despite the increased military presence of Operation "Mirador".

ℹ️ At the beginning of March, the government announced the strategy of Operation "Mirador," which focused not only on military reinforcement in the north but also on development support for local populations, particularly those in the 2KP region (municipalities of Kouandé, Kérou, and Péhunco) (📷 below), who were victims of terrorist attacks on February 24th.

⚠️ JNIM, led by its new Emir appointed in Benin, Sheikh Albani, is thus reaffirming its intention to establish a foothold in Benin and expand as close as possible to the Gulf of Guinea.
