A mortar and rocket fired from Afghanistan landed on Pakistani territory in the Jarobi Kandao area of Zakhakhel tehsil (revenue unit) in Khyber District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 24, reports The Khorasan Diary. Pakistani troops retaliated. The firing between Pakistan and Afghanistan border forces then spread to the areas of Wragha, Maro Sar, Shahkot and Zakhakhel on the Khyber border. Heavy weapons are being used from both sides. Mosharraf Zaidi, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media, said that the Afghan Taliban regime initiated unprovoked firing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Torkham and Tirah, adds Dawn. In a post on the social media platform X, he said, “Pakistan’s security forces responded immediately and effectively, silencing the Taliban aggression.” He said that any further provocation would be responded to “immediately and severely”. He said Pakistan would “continue to protect its citizens and guard its territorial integrity”.
